Outside the walls of the Old City is The Empty Tomb. It's the place where 2000 years ago Jesus was buried here, and three days later was resurrected. It's open to tourists year round and is usually THE most impacting site on our Israel trips.

The step in front of the door is over the trough where the rolling stone was moved back and forth. Shaped like a large Oreo cookie (approximately seven feet in diameter) the stone was rolled back and forth exposing or closing the grave door opening.

The Bible says that our Lord was buried in a rich man's previously unused grave hewned out of solid rock. However, the purpose of the rolling stone was to be able to roll it over the grave opening acting as a cover for the smell. Eventually, the flesh would rot away leaving only the bones. Then the stone would be rolled back, the bones gathered and placed in a small box called a sarcophagus, so the grave could be reused.

The empty tomb is so important to our faith that we've had a unique pendant (14K Gold or Sterling Silver) designed around the doorway. See the Empty Tomb Pendants.
